Darkly funny, tender, and quietly daring, Pillion follows Colin — a shy, overlooked young man living in suburban Bromley — whose life is upended when he’s drawn into the orbit of Ray, an enigmatic biker who introduces him to a strict BDSM relationship. What begins as a wordless encounter becomes an unexpected journey of desire, identity, and self‑discovery, as Colin navigates the intensity of their dynamic, the worries of his family, and the fragile hope of something resembling love.

Adapted from Adam Mars‑Jones’s novel Box Hill and directed by Harry Lighton, Pillion balances humour, discomfort, and emotional honesty with remarkable precision. Harry Melling and Alexander Skarsgård deliver fearless, deeply felt performances that anchor the film’s exploration of power, vulnerability, and the longing to be truly seen.

A standout on the festival circuit, Pillion premiered in Cannes’ Un Certain Regard section, winning Best Screenplay and the Palm Dog’s Mutt Moment. It went on to earn major acclaim, including multiple BIFA wins and BAFTA nominations, cementing Lighton as one of the most exciting new voices in British cinema.
