Set against the vibrant yet volatile backdrop of 1977 Brazil, The Secret Agent (O Agente Secreto) follows Armando, a former academic forced into hiding during the military dictatorship. Arriving in Recife amid the chaos of carnival, he hopes to reconnect with his young son and find safety. Instead, he is drawn into a tense and dangerous world where political persecution is ever-present and trust is in short supply.

Adopting a false identity, Armando becomes entangled with a network of dissidents while evading the attention of corrupt authorities and hired assassins. As he navigates this precarious existence, past conflicts resurface and the threat against him intensifies. The film weaves personal loss with political struggle, capturing the fear, resilience, and moral complexity of life under an authoritarian regime.

Directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho and led by a powerful performance from Wagner Moura, The Secret Agent is a gripping historical thriller that blends suspense with striking social commentary. Acclaimed on the international stage, it offers a compelling and immersive portrait of resistance, memory, and survival.
